Facts over Fantasy

I have just stepped out of the office heading home I walk slowly appreciating my surroundings. A few meters from my office I see this tall lady smiling at me I smile back somewhat unsure of her reason for smiling at me then it she hugs me " empress!! sweet sweet empress!" at that moment I recognise her by her voice. It was an old school mate from back in high school. We stop and quickly try to catch up I am happy to see her after so many years and to see what she has become. Her name was Stella now Mrs. Adams. she is digging into her purse for a notebook to show me something when this small group stands beside us. "bona kuna rine kubwa ivo pare? "(why the long queue over there?) the only woman in the group asks pointing towards a Japanese restaurant a few meters away. " hii ni hoteri ya majapanesse na watu wainaipeda sana . kwanza wamama. "( that is a hotel belonging to Japanese which is loved by many) One of the gentlemen in the group responded. curiously the lady asks him" wanauzaga nini sasa kama si wakenya? na bona ni wamama wako apo wegi?(If they are not Kenyans what do they sell? and why are majority women? ) the gentlemen then responds in a serious and somewhat sad voice " huwesi imagine ni chura na tuubwa tunapagiwa rine ivo. unajua wamama wa Nairobi especiary wakiskia eti kitu itafanya wapate mwiri poa ama uso unyooke wote wanakibiria io kitu.''( You can't imagine this but it is frogs and dogs that  people are lining up for.You know women especially those in Nairobi, they will go for anything that they hear will give them great figures and smooth skin)

Just them Mrs Adams and I burst out in laughter and moved away slowly before we upset this shocked group. we exchange contacts and part ways each one of us still amused. It was a fast food that sells chicken prepared using a Japanese recipe and the poor woman will travel back to the village armed with a story of how women in Nairobi eat frogs and dogs for beauty. As I walked to the bus stop I could not help but ponder on how we are too lazy to get facts for ourselves and we rely on third parties who are probably lazier than us and have also gotten the information from other sources thus the distortion of facts. Then there I promised my self to get rid of the ignorant lazy bug that sometimes bites me and instead of conducting proper research on some areas I depend on my girlfriends to tell me what it is all about. It reminded me of this time I had no idea what is used for waxing and when I asked one of my gals who knows everything about anything she told me it is the use of candle wax on the hair you want to get rid of then it is pulled off! I shivered at the thought and I vowed never to go for waxing. It was not until one of my other friends persuaded me to take her that I saw what it was all about. sigh!! My thoughts are interrupted by a lady who I knew from high school but he was desperately trying to hide herself so I don't say hello.
I like such situations because then I stare right through you like I don't know who you are and make you start to doubt if I actually know you. Poor lady was so desperate to hide from me. I looked at her until she looked away. we got onto the same bus but we sat at different parts of the bus. My phone rang and I picked up and soon I was drowned in a conversation with one of gals. |The call was over and I pulled out the book I was reading "Jewish Phenomenon by Steven Silbigerby '' this book is a great read and soon I am lost in the book feeling like am actually a part of it. A loud noise interrupts me and I look around to see where it was coming from only to see everyone looking at me It was my phone.I adjust the volume and as I do this I notice a bulk of messages from one of my chat groups on whatsapp. I quickly open up the chat before the messages build up. " I just bumped into this old school mate of mine and she looks so beat up by life. she used to be so pretty in school but I knew vile she was a kamkora hakataenda far! kamechapa wacha tu!(she was naughty and she would not go far. she's so messed up) that was the first chat that elicited a lot of other stories from the ladies so I look who posted the chat only to  realize it was the girl I had bumped into as I boarded the bus and she was referring to me. she had gone further to mention me by first name!! I could not decide if I was amused, shocked or angry.
I then posted a congratulations message I had received the previous day from a leading cosmetic brand about coming up in third place in a flawless face competition they were holding. This message was sent accompanying my photo. soon as I posted it on chat I followed it with a comment "Thank you ladies for voting for me. however am still looking for the definition of "kuchapa" I am the school mate that Trish is talking about. '' I then turned my chats off and went on to read my book. It is sad when you put other people down so as to feel good about yourself. sadly what you don't realize is  that the manner in which you treat others is a reflection of you not them. I decided long time ago that people or circumstances don't define me what defines me is how I react to them. Don't think when you act crass you are classy.
